Many times in our lives we hear or read about the inspiring adventures of others. We are often full of admiration for these intrepid souls who seem to push themselves beyond their perceived limits to achieve a difficult goal. Why do they do it? To satisfy large egos? To be faster, bigger, better? No. Quite often these people are exploring an inner desire to discover what they are really about. What really drives us, motivates us, inspires us? Following their adventures they don’t always return enlightened, but they do seem to possess a greater understanding of themselves and their relationship with others. We are
strong believers in the power of undertaking a challenging journey to
learn more about ourselves and others. This really is the challenge of a lifetime, a unique opportunity for you to join a team of 10 like minded people to navigate through the Arctic wilderness with your own dog team. You’ll be journeying through a frozen landscape 300 miles north of the Arctic Circle with only the sound of panting dogs and the crunching of snow under sled runners for company. You will be given expert training in dog sledding by one of Norway’s top dog sled guides. This will include guidance on how to handle your dogs, feed and care for them and negotiate the sled through some of the most inspiring terrain in the world. Crossing this vast frozen wilderness you’ll stop occasionally to catch your breath and take in your surroundings. You may see herds of wild reindeer roaming the Arctic tundra in search of food and in the evening you may even catch sight of the Northern Lights. During the expedition you’ll be staying with a Sami tribe in traditional teepees carpeted with bracken whilst enjoying the rejuvenating power of smoked reindeer meat. We will have to set up camps in sometimes challenging weather conditions in some of the more remote areas. Luckily we’ll be using specially adapted Norwegian Army tents, each with it’s own wood burning stove! Part of the journey takes us 24km across one of the largest lakes in Northern Norway where there’ll be an opportunity to try your hand at ice fishing. At the end of the journey you’ll celebrate your success in the Ice Bar at Gargia where you’ll be served a well deserved shot of vodka in an ice glass. Throughout the expedition there will be plenty of opportunity to reflect on the journey and what personal learning can be drawn from it.
